A word from Pastor Rob

We at Calvary Chapel do not believe that church is a "spectator sport", but a personal walk & work of God in our individual lives. The purpose of the church as described in the Bible is one that equips believers for the ministry. We as believers have been called into a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ that will radically transform our lives and spill over into the lives of people around us. We were saved into a new life and as we grow up into this new life, we become a reflection of His character. As we look at Jesus' life we see a life that was devoted to the Father's will and in service to others. It is not the job of the church to entertain people, but to equip individual believers to be good stewards of God's grace & to minister to each other & their communities. This life changing transformation is accomplished as we worship, abide in His Word, take time to fellowship & pray with each other, and in personal communion with our Lord.
I believe that in our consumer driven society, a dangerous trend has emerged in our churches. Some people, when looking for a church to attend, simply want a nice building to worship in, a service that doesn't offend anybody, an entertaining sermon that doesn't challenge them to grow, & programs for the whole family to take advantage of whenever the urge to attend arises. Many churches today compromise by conforming to this consumer mentality simply to fill pews and keep the tithes and offerings coming in. This is not the Christianity written of in the Bible nor the goal or calling of God in our lives.
As a consumer we ask, "What's in it for me" as a servant of Christ we ask, "How can I serve and be a blessing to others". As followers of Christ, the second question is the correct one.
May God Bless.

Pastor Rob
